Nino Ferreira, Pernambucan artist, was born in the city of Olinda in March 1966.
Nino started drawing and painting from the age of six, without any formal training, but by 1992, he had started incorporating theme and defined technique into his works.
“Carbono 14” is the title of the initial period of black and white drawings, primarily on carbon copy paper.

The intimate and sombre atmosphere of this period continued until the end of the 1990’s, at which stage, experimentation with free sketch and the use of colour had started featuring on the first canvasses.
This phase of rehearsal progressed through stages of incorporating humour and the lyrical and moved onto the incorporation of the ambience of cabaret as well as the religious imagery of the North East of Brazil. Vibrant themes in virtual surrealism and even urban pop began to emerge. It was within this context that Nino’s first exhibition, entitled “Evas” was born.
2007 brought a distinctly new period of focus, where charcoal line stepped onto the centre stage and colour moved into the background. However, a delicate femininity remained. This exhibition, in 2008 is entitled “Feminino” and extracts the essence of all the primary periods of Nino’s work, as well as the developmental bridges between these phases, whilst constantly honouring the central theme of femininity.
